I have been a rider at Gordon RDA for 26 years. My Gordon RDA story began when my teacher suggested I should go along. I was scared when I first climbed on the back of a hairy, pony. Compared to my guinea pig, it seemed pretty big.
Thanks to my coaches and lots of volunteers I started a journey with horses. My coaches gave me new skills, kept me safe, and encouraged me. I have learned so much and I am still learning. I enjoy competing in dressage and have taken part in National competitions and even travelled the world competing Internationally in the Special Olympics.
But my journey is also one of life skills. Gordon RDA has helped me to step out from society’s shadows into the light. It has helped me to look at others straight in the eye, not down at their feet, to be treated with respect, and to feel Special, instead of Special Needs.
If you would like to volunteer, participate or get involved with the RDA please do not hesitate to get in touch.
